LAS VEGAS, Oct. 29 NV-Ron-Hubbard-AARP

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- L. Ron Hubbard's Stories from the Golden Age line of books and audiobooks were announced and made available for the first time at the American Association for Retired Persons (AARP) annual convention which took place in the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas this past week.

In making its debut with the AARP, a special live theatrical presentation of one of Hubbard's humorous stories, The Professor Was a Thief, written about 1940s New York, was performed by actors flown in from Hollywood for the occasion: Jim Meskimen (Frost/Nixon and political impressions on JibJab.com), RF Daley (Broadway actor including Cats), Emmy award winner John Mariano (Animaniacs) and Josh Robert Thompson (the voice of "Fake" Arnold Schwarzenegger). Attendees of the show were rave in their response, repeatedly stating that it "was a great performance" while others commented how they "laughed and had a great time."

Gunhild Jacobs, Snr VP Author Services, Inc., the literary agency responsible for L. Ron Hubbard's works, was on hand and observed, "This is a great public for Stories from the Golden Age." She noted that about half the books sold at the show were for the AARP members themselves with their high action and entertainment value and half for their grandchildren due to the stories' acceptance by the Scholastic Reading Counts and the Accelerated Reader programs as clean high-interest stories.

Stories from the Golden Age contains 153 stories all written by Hubbard during the 1930s and 1940s, widely-considered Pulp Fiction's Golden Age. The print version of each work includes the artwork that originally-accompanied the story in the pulp magazine publication. In addition, each title offers a full-cast, unabridged audio theatrical presentation complete with theme music and dimensional sound effects.

Like other great pulp writers that included names such as Edgar Rice Burroughs, Raymond Chandler, Agatha Christie and Dashiell Hammett, Hubbard rapidly became a mainstay of popular fiction in the 20th century. However, Hubbard was unlike most authors of the day, as his stories covered a wide spectrum of genres, including adventure, western, mystery, detective, fantasy, science fiction and even some romance, using his own and 15 pen names.
