WASHINGTON - (Business Wire) Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS booked orders valued at $200 million from the US Army yesterday as part of the $1.4 billion Common Remotely Operated Weapon Stations (CROWS II) framework agreement signed in August 2007.

CROWS is a joint acquisition program for weapon stations for the US Armys vehicle programs. The platforms to be included are the M1151 HMMWV, MRAP vehicles and the M1A2 Abrams MBT. The recent order by the US Army will provide efficiency gains for protection, training, support and further development.

The Remote Weapon Station market is expanding exponentially at the moment for a very good reason, said Knut Saeter, VP of Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace in Alexandria, VA. Soldiers lives are put at risk in complex conflict areas, and the Protector Family of Remote Weapon Stations is saving lives by putting them out of harms way.

The delivery for this contract of CROWS II will take place in 2009 and 2010. The weapon stations will be manufactured at KONGSBERG's newest production facility in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, USA.

Headquartered in Norway, and with manufacturing facilities and offices in the US, KONGSBERG is a supplier of high-technology systems to the defense and aerospace industry specializes in anti-ship missiles, command and weapons control systems and communications systems. KONGSBERG helps to provide American service men and women with technology that provides protection and adaptability for the ever changing battlegrounds of today and tomorrow.
