LOS ANGELES - (Business Wire) The Law Office of Jose Mariano Castillo announces that in one of the largest spousal and child support legal rulings in recent years, the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (July 18) awarded more than $3 million to Judy Lorden for her former husband Richard
’s failure to pay spousal and child support since the late 1980s.
Additionally, Judge Maren Nelson, presiding in Department 60, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Richard Lorden for his failure to appear in court, as she originally ordered on Feb. 19, 2008.
Judge Nelson ruled that Mr. Lorden owes child and spousal support of $3,363,740 to his former wife, Judy Lorden. Except for a 1988 payment of less than $15,000, he has made none of the original child and spousal support payments ordered by the Superior Court in August 1987.
On the contempt proceeding, Richard Lorden’s lawyer asked the Judge to continue the contempt hearing for four months, claiming that Mr. Lorden is very ill in Mexico and cannot travel, and in addition, has no passport to permit him to travel.
Judy Lorden’s lawyers, Jose Mariano Castillo and Melissa Cohen, opposed the motion and presented videotape evidence that on May 30, 2008, Richard Lorden attended a meeting at the Phoenix Motor Company in Ontario, Calif., and appeared to be in good health, able to travel and evidently in possession of travel documents. After receiving the videotape evidence, Judge Nelson denied the motion to delay and issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Richard Lorden to take effect immediately.
According to Castillo, “Deadbeat dad Richard Lorden has disobeyed the court order to support his child and his wife for more than 20 years. He has moved to Mexico where he lives an extravagant lifestyle believing that he is beyond the reach of the law.
“The complexity of the case turns on the fact that the orders issued in California could not be executed while Richard Lorden, a highly successful businessman, resided in Mexico City for years under the name of Ricardo Lorden Brenzel and others.”
The Superior Court Case Number is D191152.
