Former Alibaba CTO brings significant operational expertise to NLVC
BEIJING and MENLO PARK, Calif., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Northern Light Venture Capital (NLVC), a China-focused venture capital firm, today announced the appointment of John Wu as venture partner. Mr. Wu will be based out of NLVC's Shanghai office and is responsible for evaluating and seeking new investment opportunities in early and growth stage opportunities in consumer and technology enabled businesses. He brings in more than a decade of technical and management experience at leading technology companies.

Before joining NLVC, Mr. Wu was chief technology officer of Alibaba Group, the largest e-commerce company in China, from 2000 to 2007 where he directed the design and implementation for its e-commerce software and technology platforms for Alibaba.com, Taobao.com (an online shopping marketplace for consumers in China), and other services in the company. He also founded Alibaba's U.S. branch in and most recently worked on the post-merger integration between Alibaba and Yahoo! China.
Previously, Mr. Wu worked for Yahoo! Inc. as chief architect of Yahoo!'s directory search engine and its software applications. Prior to Yahoo!, he was a development manager at Oracle. Mr. Wu holds a Bachelor of Science degree with high distinction from University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in Computer Science and studied at Shanghai Jiaotong University.
