SOUTHBOROUGH, MA -- 11/20/08 -- Many consumers, especially those with allergy and asthma sensitivities, can suffer adverse affects from live and artificial Christmas trees and trimmings inside their homes this holiday season. Allergies and asthma can be triggered by mold on decaying trees, tree pollen, and dust on artificial trees and ornaments. However, a few simple tips can help keep everyone in good holiday spirit:

1. Before decorating a live Christmas tree, hose it off and allow it to dry
completely on an enclosed porch or garage.
2. Clean artificial Christmas trees and ornaments outside before
decorating. They can gather mold and dust in storage.
3. Consider throwing out a live tree two or three days after Christmas,
   before it becomes moldy.
4. Take care when burning wood in the fireplace. The smoke can trigger an
   asthma attack.
5. Operate a portable air purifier in the areas of the home where you have
placed Christmas trees and decorations, such as the living room and
family areas. Effective portable air purifiers, such as Honeywell®
branded air purifiers, capture up to 99% or more of airborne particles 2
microns or larger such as smoke, dust, pollen, pet dander and mold
   spores.

Note to editors: Cheri Wright, marketing director for Kaz Inc., manufacturer of portable Honeywell Home Environment Products, is available for interviews and can share tips on which types of home air purifiers are best for which consumers and how Americans can easily and affordably improve their indoor air quality this holiday season.
