SUNNYVALE, Calif. - (Business Wire) IntraOp Medical Corporation (OTCBB: IOPM) today announced formation of a Dermatology Advisory Board to help guide the company with its go-to-market strategy for its DermaBeam dermatology electron radiation therapy application.

The advisory board, made up of an illustrious group of dermatologists and radiation oncologists, was formed with the mission of raising awareness of the DermaBeam application and its clinical effectiveness, as well as enhancing a multi-disciplinary approach to skin cancer treatment incorporating the DermaBeam treatment modality.

The advisory board held its first meeting at the Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 14. At the conference, Riverchase Dermatology and 21st Century Radiation Oncology presented the findings from their DermaBeam validation study in the poster session. The DermaBeam application also was featured in the ‘New Technology’ portion of the conference program..

Current Advisory Board members include:

Clay Cockerell, MD – Past president of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)

Roger Ceilley, MD - Past president of the AAD and American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS)

Darrel Rigel, MD – Past president of the AAD

Andrew Jaffe, MD – Current DermaBeam user and DermRad founder

Constantine Mantz, MD – Radiation Oncologist with 21st Century Oncology

Albert Denittas, MD – Radiation Oncologist and DermRad founder

“We are very fortunate to work with such a distinguished group of advisors,” said John Powers, CEO of IntraOp, adding, “Their knowledge, experience, and integrity has already had an impact on IntraOp’s product offering and will clearly help shape our contribution to the dermatology field for years to come”.

Clinical Experience

In February of this year, Riverchase Dermatology in Ft. Myers, Florida became the first dermatology practice to use the Mobetron to treat skin cancer with electron radiation therapy. The patient outcomes in Ft. Myers were the focus of the validation study that was presented at the Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference in October.

The purpose of the study was to present the initial experience and results of the DermaBeam treatment. “Our experience with the Mobetron and the DermaBeam treatment so far has been encouraging,” says Andrew Jaffe, MD, of Riverchase Dermatology, adding, “Our patients have responded positively, appreciating the choice of therapies, as well as the convenience of receiving the treatment in the comfort of our office setting.”

“We see dermatology developing into a significant market for the Mobetron in the United States,” said Powers. “By enabling dermatologists to offer radiation therapy in the office setting, we are supporting a multi-disciplinary approach to treating skin cancer, and giving them the best tool to treat their patients. In addition to the patient benefits, DermaBeam reimbursement is excellent. By partnering with radiation oncology groups to deliver the radiation treatment in dermatology offices, IntraOp has removed the complexity of treatment delivery, making this a very attractive addition to a dermatology practice. In short, we believe this will change the way skin cancer is treated in the United States.”
