WHAT:		As the Colorado River continues its recovery from record drought, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar is scheduled to join more than 1,000 water leaders and policy makers throughout the West at the annual conference of the Colorado River Water Users Association.

WHEN:		Wednesday, Dec. 9 through Friday, Dec. 11

WHERE:		Caesars Palace, 3570 Las Vegas Blvd, South Las Vegas, NV

PARTICIPANTS:		Interior Secretary Salazar (invited); Michael O’Connor, Commissioner, Bureau of Reclamation (invited); and water leaders from all seven states in the Colorado River Basin.

BACKGROUND:
		The three-day agenda for CRWUA’s 2009 annual conference focuses on expected changes in water management, the hurdles they may create, and the opportunities they present on the Colorado River. The conference will feature discussions from some of the leading policy and technical experts on a variety of timely river-related issues and topics.

		Panel discussions will cover such challenges as climate change politics (Thursday morning); the response to the quagga mussel invasion (Wednesday morning); the need for supply augmentation along the river (Thursday afternoon); and how to handle uranium waste near the river (Friday morning).
