MONTGOMERY, Ala. - (Business Wire) As the State of Alabama continues to advance as a leader in the global science and technology arena, Governor Bob Riley has called upon the state's technology innovators to lead the Science and Technology Roadmap for Alabama (STRA). ICS President and Founder, Steve Goldsby, has been selected to chair the Information Technology and Informatics working group, responsible for setting the strategic direction with regards to that discipline within the STRA.

The STRA effort aims to use Alabama’s resources to increase technological innovation in Alabama in order to remain competitive with other states and regions and to advance the number of science and technology positions available within the state. STRA will work with central figures in both the public and private sectors that will enable Alabama to be competitive with other states in technological advancement.

Goldsby understands that the state must continue to develop and use its assets wisely in order to attract new science and technology jobs to the state. “It's exciting to be part of the team forging Alabama's strategic direction for informatics,” said Goldsby. “Information Technology is a force multiplier for all science and technology disciplines. By creating a clear vision for I.T. in Alabama, industry, academia and government will be better able to capitalize on our assets and create and draw jobs to our state,” he said.

The STRA effort is not just an advancement for the I.T. community; the success of the initiative will undoubtedly have a large, positive impact on many other industries as well. By allowing Alabamians to gain access to the most current and innovative technology, this project promises to advance state approaches to healthcare and energy, and increase the role Alabama plays in aerospace and defense, modeling and simulation, and nanotechnology.

Governor Bob Riley has been a strong supporter of STRA and acknowledges its importance to future economic development and growth in Alabama. Click here to read the press release on his appearance at a recent Alabama Science and Technology summit.
