WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - (Business Wire) Icon Labs (www.icon-labs.com) a leading provider of embedded networking and security technology, today announced the availability of Floodgate-SNMPTM, the industry’s first SNMP burst management solution. Floodgate-SNMP monitors all traffic destined to an SNMP manager and applies user defined thresholds to detect and block a flood of packets from any IP address. A common application is to prevent an SNMP manager from being overwhelmed by a flood of SNMP traps. “SNMP flood conditions can occur from a single network element sending redundant traps, a network outage affecting many network elements, or cascading failures. A flood of SNMP traps can bog down or overwhelm an SNMP management system resulting in processing delays or traps being lost,” said Alan Grau, CEO of Icon Labs. “Floodgate safeguards against SNMP flood conditions and ensures the SNMP manager does not get bogged down processing redundant traps.”
Floodgate-SNMP monitors all UDP traffic bound for the SNMP manager. Floodgate-SNMP detects and blocks packets from any sender whose packet count exceeds a high water threshold. Packets from the offending IP addresses will be blocked until traffic drops and remains below a low water threshold. Floodgate-SNMP is completely transparent to the SNMP manager.
Floodgate-SNMP is available now and can be purchased as a network appliance or can be installed on an existing Linux, Solaris or BSD server.
