HOUSTON, TX -- 11/30/09 --
Houston
Criminal Attorney John Floyd, was recently recognized for his pro bono
representation of those contacted for voluntary interviews by the FBI. Mr.
Floyd received the 2009 CAIR-TX, Houston Chapter, Award "In recognition of:
His personal dedication and committed assistance in providing protection to
our community from undue harassment from federal agencies." The award
comes after years of pro bono representation to those targeted for
"voluntary" interviews based solely upon their religious beliefs or country
of origin.
"Since receiving the CAIR award, I have a greater appreciation for the
larger impact that pro bono work can bring to a community and the positive
effect such efforts have upon the public's image of lawyers in general.
"I have been asked many times why I have given so much time to this effort.
My answer is simple: Because it is the right thing to do.
"Given the recent years of fear preached from the highest levels of
government, the Muslim community is very vulnerable to false suspicion and
unwarranted attack. I will do my modest part to help," said John Floyd.
Since receiving the CAIR award, Mr. Floyd has continued his pro bono effort
by providing representation to members of the Islamic Center of Killeen who
were interviewed by the FBI after the tragic shooting at Ft. Hood. "The
leadership of the mosque is proud to assist in the investigation of the
shootings at Ft. Hood. It was a terrible and senseless deed," Floyd said.
