DENVER - (Business Wire) The Denver office of Hogan & Hartson LLP announced that it is one of 13 founding companies and the only law firm to represent Colorado
’s membership in The Climate Registry, a non-profit organization established by states, tribes, and provinces in North American to measure greenhouse gas emissions consistently across industry sectors and borders.
Colorado Governor Bill Ritter recognized the state’s founding members of The Climate Registry while announcing several initiatives of his Climate Action Plan, which includes a statewide greenhouse gas emissions reduction standard. Colorado is only the second U.S. state government to join The Climate Registry, in which member companies and organizations agree to calculate, verify, and publicly report their greenhouse gas emissions each year.
“We share the belief that companies will have greater success in reducing their carbon footprint by being completely transparent about their greenhouse gas emissions and what they’re doing to reduce them,” said Hogan & Hartson Denver managing partner Cole Finegan. “The Climate Registry will help educate and encourage other organizations, their employees, customers, and vendors to also take action in helping the environment. And this in turn will help ensure the long-term success of Colorado’s Climate Action Plan.”
Hogan & Hartson’s participation as a founding Colorado member of The Climate Registry is also an extension of the firm’s “EarthWell” initiative, which puts in place standards and policies to dramatically reduce energy use and minimize waste at the firm’s Colorado offices in Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs. The program was launched in January.
