NEW YORK - (Business Wire) Heartbeat Digital CEO Bill Drummy has been selected to speak at the upcoming Public Hearing on Promotion of FDA-Regulated Medical Products Using the Internet and Social Media Tools. The hearing will take place on November 12 and 13 in Washington, D.C. and will focus on “the continually evolving nature of the internet, including Web 2.0 and social-media tools, as well as their expansion to applications such as mobile technology”.

Mr. Drummy will be providing his point of view on such topics as what types of online communications pharmaceutical companies should be held accountable for, how those companies should be required to fulfill regulatory requirements with the inherent space limitations of social media and how adverse event reporting should be handled.

Heartbeat will be tweeting live from the hearing; follow the events at @heartbeatny.

In anticipation of the hearing, Mr. Drummy said, “Up to this point there have been no guidelines regarding digital pharmaceutical marketing, which has really put pharma companies in a straitjacket when it comes to using social media. So we applaud the effort and are hopeful the hearing will lead to clear guidance and expanded use of social media which will greatly help patients in the management of their health.”

The hearing will feature a cross-section of speakers including consumers, pharmaceutical companies, digital agencies, research firms, bloggers, social networking experts, and non-profit groups.

Mr. Drummy has outlined his point of view regarding new social media developments and the FDA hearing in the paper, “Thinking Deeper about Sidewiki and the FDA: Why the obvious advice might just be wrong”. Download the POV at www.heartbeatdigital.com/pdf/Thinking_Deeper.pdf
