BOSTON - (Business Wire) Health Dialog Services Corporation today unveiled the industry’s first predictive models that identify individuals with a high likelihood of having a lifestyle risk for the purposes of engaging those individuals in wellness programs. The new models, which can function with or without HRA data, enable Health Dialog clients to more accurately identify and then proactively engage at-risk individuals who would most benefit from healthy behavior change programs aimed at lowering risk of future costly medical conditions.

Dr. Betsy Barbeau, Senior Vice President of Health & Wellness at Health Dialog, will present these new models in a case study entitled “Consumer Dynamics & Lifestyle Risks: Developing a Health & Wellness Identification Methodology” on Tuesday, November 25th at the DMAA Forum ’08 in Hollywood, FL.

“Proactively identifying and targeting individuals with a high likelihood of having a lifestyle risk is essential to realizing the value of any health & wellness program. But, until now, no one could accurately predict who had the highest risk without relying on HRA or definitive diagnoses in claims,” said Barbeau. “Health Dialog is now the only company to offer predictive models that can find those individuals with a high likelihood of risk, even in the absence of HRA data, and provide Health Coaching and related support that helps individuals lower their risk level.”

Care management has historically relied on Health Risk Assessment (HRA) data to identify and outreach to individuals with lifestyle risks. However, participation in these surveys is typically very low and the self-reported data not always accurate. Health Dialog's new lifestyle-based predictive models do not rely solely on HRA data and in fact can operate with or without such data. The core components of the models are person- and community-level demographics and community-level measures of consumer purchasing behaviors. The models also make use of claims data on conditions related to lifestyle risks. Medical claims data on specific lifestyle risks and HRA data can be incorporated if available.

In combination with Health Dialog’s tailored messaging approach and care management services, these new predictive models provide a unique and industry leading method to reach and engage individuals who are at risk for serious health issues and costly medical bills.
