Use of the Care Guidelines will Improve Quality of Review Process
SEATTLE, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Milliman Care Guidelines, LLC, A Milliman Company, announced that Health Care Excel, Inc. (HCE), the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Indiana and Kentucky, has entered into a five-year licensing agreement to use the Milliman Care Guidelines(R).
HCE will use the Care Guidelines products -- Ambulatory Care, Inpatient and Surgical Care, General Recovery Guidelines, Recovery Facility Care, Home Care, Chronic Care Guidelines, and Behavioral Health Guidelines -- to help support appropriate clinical decisions with evidence-based medicine. HCE will use the Care Guidelines for Medicare quality reviews to ensure the appropriate quality of clinical care for Medicare beneficiaries.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) contract with QIOs in each state to conduct various reviews and to implement quality initiatives. CMS does not mandate or endorse the use of any specific criteria set by QIOs or hospitals.
The Care Guidelines promote quality care by providing healthcare professionals with access to best practice derived from the current best evidence. Further, the Care Guidelines display Quality Measures approved by CMS and each inpatient guideline topic lists key care elements and hospital care planning information highlighting interventions that have the highest leverage for improving outcomes.
The Care Guidelines are designed for prospective, concurrent, and retrospective review among other care management activities. They enable informed and consistent clinical care decisions, and support the best possible care management by using the most current clinical evidence.
