HONOLULU, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Visitors planning a Hawaii vacation can learn about regional foods at www.ShareYourTable.com. The Hawaii-based website highlights Hawaii's homegrown foods and those farmers, fishermen, chefs and grocers that fill the homes and restaurants throughout the islands with locavore (a person who seeks out locally produced food) fare.

Much of the islands' food comes from outside of Hawaii, shipped in containers on huge barges burning fossil fuels and non-renewable resources. Locally produced food is arguably eco-friendlier, fresher, more nutritious and taste better. As visitors and locals alike become more conscious of the national locavore movement, www.ShareYourTable.com is the source to finding Hawaii's locally grown food in an environmentally friendly means.

Many of Hawaii's top chefs - Roy Yamaguchi, DK Kodama, Beverly Gannon, Alan Wong and others - give video cooking classes, farm tours and discussion on what is special about Hawaii's local foods. Blog posts, video cooking classes, sharp photography and written content from award-winning food journalists fill the online pages with color and flavor.

The talent includes former Honolulu Advertiser food editor and cookbook author Joan Namkoong presenting video cooking lessons and contributing written content to the site. Current Honolulu Advertiser food editor, Wanda Adams, shares her local food history. Wine expert Chuck Furuya is the sommelier.

"This is really a site where a like-minded community of food lovers can share and learn everything they want to know about Hawaii's agricultural abundance, where to buy and eat, and how to go locavore on vacation," said Melanie Kosaka, owner/producer of www.ShareYourTable.com. "The site is kept fresh with constant video updates, blogs, Twitter and Facebook posts and links to other sites."

Later this year, www.ShareYourTable.com will launch the first locavore interactive cable channel in the United States with episodes to be replicated online.

The venture is sponsored by Riggs Distributing Sub Zero/Wolf Hawaii, Hawaii State Department of Agriculture's Seal of Quality program and Hawaii Seafood Council.

For more information, visit www.ShareYourTable.com or email info@ShareYourTable.com. Follow them on Twitter @shareyourtable. Kosaka blogs about food for Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau's website www.gohawaii.com and their Facebook fan page.
