AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 250 volunteers,
including employees from local Chrysler Jeep(R) and Dodge Dealers, The
Chrysler Foundation; the City of Norfolk; Chrysler LLC, Chrysler Financial;
organizers from KaBOOM! and residents of the Norfolk community joined forces
today, to build a new and secure playground at Denby Park.
The new playground is meant to help revitalize the Denby Park
neighborhood, giving thousands of children and their families a great and
enjoyable place to play.
"Playgrounds provide children with a sense of freedom and develops their
skills of exploration," said Bill Shepard, CEO, Greenbrier Chrysler Jeep and
President of the Hampton Roads Chrysler Jeep and Dodge Dealer Advertising
Association. "The Chrysler Jeep and Dodge dealers of Hampton Roads are proud
to participate in the building of this play structure that will attract
children and families back to Denby Park."
Planning for the playground began at a Design Day event held in July 2008.
Local children and community leaders met with organizers from KaBOOM! and
Chrysler to develop their "dream" playground. The children's drawings were
used to create the final playground design.
"Thanks to the generous support of the project's sponsors, the children of
the Denby Park will now have a close and convenient playground to call their
own," said Norfolk Mayor Paul D. Fraim
The project is the tenth of 25 playgrounds scheduled to be built across
the country this year by KaBOOM!, The Chrysler Foundation, and Chrysler, Jeep
or Dodge dealerships. The playground is also one of more than 225 builds
KaBOOM! will lead across the country in 2008, in an effort to provide an
enjoyable place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
