SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. - (Business Wire) The Grossman Burn Center (“GBC”) today announced the opening of its new Lafayette, LA burn unit. Located at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, the facility is the first Grossman Burn Center outside the state of California. The six bed facility, which is staffed by three physicians, is the only dedicated burn unit in southwest Louisiana. The region has a heavy concentration of industrial agriculture and oil and gas production, and is a rapidly expanding population center. Prior to the opening of the new Grossman Burn Center, the nearest burn units were in Baton Rouge, LA, 80 miles to the East, and Shreveport, LA, more than 200 miles to the North.
GBC Co-Director Dr. Peter H. Grossman commented, “Our expansion strategy has been to identify markets where there is a demonstrated need for burn care as well as the existing quality medical infrastructure to support a dedicated burn unit. In Lafayette we were able to fill a need for burn care and affiliate with a first rate hospital partner. The burn unit will be under the direction of GBC Medical Director Dr. Peter H. Grossman and will be managed on-site by Dr. Stephen Delatte, an accomplished plastic surgeon trained in restorative burn care. The facility also is outfitted with state-of-the-art telemedicine equipment that will allow for real time consultation with GBC physicians from the three California Grossman Burn Centers.
