BELLEVUE, Wash. - (Business Wire) Today, Greenwood Technologies joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of Vermont at an event focused on demonstrations of cleaner technology outdoor wood boilers for home and commercial heat.

At the event in Waterbury, VT, Greenwood and the public agencies encouraged the use of more efficient outdoor wood boiler technology that is now available versus older, dirty-burning wood boilers that many people currently use.

Additionally, Greenwood launched its Outdoor Wood Boiler Changeout Program in Vermont. This program includes a financial incentive and financing packages for people who want to replace old wood boilers with cleaner technology. Greenwood is offering a $500 credit and special financing, which could reduce the cost of a wood boiler to $140 a month.

At the event, the EPA launched its Phase 2 emission standards for outdoor wood boilers and the State of Vermont discussed the parameters of their certification program. Greenwood Technologies manufactures only government qualified biomass and wood-fired heating equipment, whether wood boilers or pellet boilers.

Wood heat is a powerful way for an average American to influence the energy discussion, noted Michael Kuehner, vice president of Greenwood Technologies. We want to dispel the belief that wood heat is not a cleaner source of energy. The standard promoted by EPA at this event is a clear indication that wood and biomass are increasingly important elements in our countrys energy platform.

The event is taking place in the shadow of some of the highest home heating prices in history. According to estimates by the U.S. Department of Energy, households using heating oil will pay an average $4.34 a gallon or $2,644 for the heating season. This is up more than 30 percent from last winter and up more than 150 percent since 2003.

The cost and price stability of heating fuels are the main reason we are seeing a huge surge in interest, added Kuehner.

Greenwood Technologies expects to top 400 percent in growth this year. The company displayed its Greenwood Aspen Series wood boiler at the event. The Greenwood Aspen emits 8.4 grams of particulates per hour compared to the more than 70 grams produced by an old, dirty-burning wood boiler.

The event was open to the public and provided an opportunity to learn more about wood boilers, which have been embroiled in controversy due to air quality concerns over older and less efficient cousins which have sparked neighborhood disputes.

All Greenwood appliances featured at the event are part of a new generation of cleaner burning, high efficiency wood boilers that produce approximately 90 percent less emissions and can save homeowners as much as 70 percent off their heating bills.
