SACRAMENTO, Calif. - (Business Wire) The first all-black children's book with an accompanying rag doll were the subject of an emotional celebration for author and designer, Paris E. Tompkins. After more than 18 years of failed contracts, and many starts and stops, the 66-year old Tompkins is finally bringing her imaginary land of "Oodleville" and its ethnically decorated character dolls called "Oodles" to readers in "the Land Beyond," which we call Earth. The book has been published by Silicon Publishing, Inc. Character dolls and books can be ordered from Tompkins' company, The Oodles Company. Books can also be purchased online through CreateSpace.com. At the launch party hosted by Silicon Publishing, Tompkins said, "I feel almost as I did when my kids were all grown up and leaving home to find their own way in the world." The first book in the series written by Tompkins is appropriately called "The First Trip" and introduces Bubba, the News Reporter for the Oodleville News. There will eventually be ten different dolls, each with their own objective storyline. They will be presented singularly or in groups of two or three. The stories will follow each character's journey as they share wide-ranging information and adventures with the people they meet. The books and dolls will not only be sources of play for children, but also tools of learning and discovery.
