Former CEO and Founder Brent Richardson Assumes New Role as Executive Chairman PHOENIX, June 25
PHOENIX, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Grand Canyon Education, Inc. (GCE), the holding company for Grand Canyon University, announced today that Brian Mueller, former President of Apollo Group, the holding company for the University of Phoenix, has been named Chief Executive Officer effective immediately.
Former CEO Brent Richardson, GCE's Chief Executive Officer for the past four years, will assume the new position of Executive Chairman of the Board. Richardson and Mueller will work together to develop long-term strategy and develop new programs for the University.
"We continually seek the best possible senior executives in order to improve our program offerings and provide the best educational experience for our students," said Richardson. "We are delighted that Brian is joining our leadership team with his wealth of experience in higher education and success while running the University of Phoenix."

Mueller has served as President and a director of Apollo Group since January 2006 and has been with Apollo Group since 1987. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer of Apollo Group from December 2005 to January 2006, Chief Executive Officer of UPX Online from March 2002 to November 2005, and Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of UPX Online from May 1997 to March 2002. He is 53 years old.
