WASHINGTON, June 24 Gloucester-pregnancy
WASHINGTON, June 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Education author KAREN HOLGATE blames "comprehensive sex education," taught in schools throughout the U.S., for the Gloucester teen pregnancy spike.
Early news reports about the Gloucester "pregnancy pact" made much of the fact that the medical director and chief nurse of the Gloucester High School's health clinic quit in protest over the school's refusal to allow condom distribution by the clinic.
"But the girls knew about condoms and chose not to use them," Holgate says. "They wanted to get pregnant."
Holgate's new best-selling book, "FROM CRAYONS TO CONDOMS: THE UGLY TRUTH ABOUT AMERICA'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS," discusses the fallacy about condom effectiveness and the ugly truth about what actually takes place in today's so-called sex ed classes.
"The Gloucester teen pregnancy story actually illustrates the fallacy of comprehensive sex ed -- where teens having sex is not only assumed but seemingly approved of by public school authorities. Consequences, including the reality and responsibilities associated with having babies are minimized," Holgate says.
Karen Holgate's articles and policy reports have appeared in a number of publications including the Congressional Quarterly, Investors Business Daily, the Washington Times, and Insight Magazine. She has been interviewed by local and national radio shows, and has appeared on CBS, NBC and Fox news shows.
