REDWOOD SHORES, CA -- 07/08/09 -- Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL)

News Facts

  • Organizations worldwide including City of Albuquerque, Merial and Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute have upgraded to Oracle® Database 11g to power their business applications, Oracle announced today.

Oracle Database 11g Foundation for Key Business Applications

  • City of Albuquerque, New Mexico runs Oracle Database 11g as the foundation for a new implementation of Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Financial Management and Human Capital Management Release 9.0 applications. The City of Albuquerque relied on its internal staff to install, configure and deploy Oracle Database 11g, which went live in January 2009.
  • Merial is a world-leading, innovation-driven animal health company, providing a comprehensive range of products to enhance the health, well-being and performance of a wide range of animals. In November 2008, Merial went live with U.S.-based entities on the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 powered by Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Real Application Clusters running on Oracle Enterprise Linux, and upgraded to Oracle Database 11g in April 2009. Furthermore, in June 2009, the French business entity went live on the same global application. Merial now runs a highly available and scalable global single instance of its applications allowing it to eliminate previously disparate IT systems, integrate additional business units from other countries over time, and deliver improved performance levels for the application users. Oracle Consulting Services assisted in architecting and implementing the Oracle infrastructure software in support of the Oracle E-Business Suite R12 at Merial.
  • Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, a leading global genome research institute, has implemented Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Real Application Clusters and Oracle Partitioning to more efficiently manage their 90-terabyte and growing research database. Another key factor behind the institute's usage of Oracle Database 11g is the SecureFiles feature. Oracle SecureFiles enables the high performance storage and retrieval of unstructured file content such as images, audio, video, PDFs and spreadsheets in Oracle Database 11g. Running on industry-standard hardware and storage, the institute's research database offers users significantly improved performance, availability and scalability.

Supporting Quotes

"As part of a new implementation spanning hardware and PeopleSoft Enterprise applications, we deployed the latest release of Oracle Database," said Jens Nielsen, Database Administrator II, City of Albuquerque. "Going live on both PeopleSoft Enterprise and Oracle Database 11g at once has allowed us to focus our efforts on application maintenance, database tuning and availability enhancements to meet the performance and reliability needs of our users."

"Our investments in the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 and Oracle Database 11g with Oracle Real Application Clusters are helping Merial to improve and streamline business processes in addition to offering our global users a robust environment that will meet their performance and availability needs," said Gurunathan Sankaran, Executive Director - Enterprise Architecture, Merial.

"Oracle's SecureFiles storage feature makes the Oracle Database 11g a major platform for managing large object data types while providing rapid retrieval speeds, improved system performance, optimized space and hardware usage, and extreme scalability," said Karen Ambrose, Senior Database Administrator, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.

"Organizations worldwide continue to adopt Oracle Database 11g to power their enterprise applications," said William Hardie, vice president of Database Product Marketing, Oracle. "The customers highlighted here are excellent examples of business user applications benefiting from the performance, availability, scalability and other features of Oracle Database 11g."
