SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., July 9 CT-GerberScientific
SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., July 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gerber Scientific,
Inc. (NYSE: GRB), a worldwide leader in integrated automation solutions, is
pleased to announce that Mimaki's new CJV-30 series integrated printer cutter
line released today incorporates licensed technology from Gerber Scientific.
In the fiscal fourth quarter of 2008, Gerber granted a worldwide license
to Mimaki Engineering Company Limited, a leading Japanese printer and plotter
manufacturer. The license represented the second non-exclusive license Gerber
has granted for its family of computerized "print to cut" technology patents,
based off of its pioneer U.S. Patent 5,537,135 ['135 Patent]. Gerber granted
the first license to another leading Japanese printer manufacturer earlier
this year. The terms of both licenses are confidential.
"We are very pleased with our agreement with Mimaki, enabling them to
utilize our patented technology in their new product release. This approach
reflects Gerber's stated position of allowing other companies access to this
family of patents to further advance the industry as a whole, while
recognizing Gerber's commitment to maximize shareholder value through the
licensing, and if need be, enforcement of the Company's intellectual property
rights." said Marc T. Giles, President and CEO of Gerber Scientific Inc.
The Company is presently prosecuting an action for infringement of the
'135 Patent in the Federal District Court in Hartford, Connecticut against
Roland DGA Corporation, the distribution and sales arm of Roland DG
Corporation of Hamamatsu, Japan, in which the Company is seeking damages and
an injunction against Roland's sale of infringing products. The lawsuit is
currently in the discovery phase, pending the setting of a trial date.
