Succeeds Kazuyuki Kawauchi Effective June 23, 2008 SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 30
SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Microelectronics
America, Inc. (FMA) today announced that Shinichi "James" Machida has been
named president and chief executive officer. Machida will be leaving his
position as president of Fujitsu Microelectronics Asia Pte. Ltd. (FMAL) in
Singapore, and Fujitsu Microelectronics Pacific Asia Ltd. (FMP) in Hong Kong,
and will arrive in the U.S. in August. He replaces Kazuyuki Kawauchi, who will
return to Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited (FML) in Japan in September.
Machida, who has more than 20 years' experience in semiconductor marketing
and overseas sales support, has held various management positions at Fujitsu
Microelectronics Limited (FML) and its affiliates. He has been president of
FMAL and FMP since October 2006, and has helped expand Fujitsu's business in
Asia outside of Japan.
Machida is not a stranger to FMA. From July 1990 through June 1995, he was
assigned to Fujitsu Microelectronics, Inc. (FMI), a predecessor of Fujitsu
Microelectronics America. During that time, he worked in FMA's Operations
group, supporting product demand forecasts and logistics, including booking,
billing and inventory control for logic products. He also worked as a manager
for special projects with FMA's strategic customers.
"James has broad experience working with Fujitsu's overseas companies, and
has helped Fujitsu expand its semiconductor business in the Asia Pacific
region," said Kazuyuki Kawauchi. "He now brings his experience, energy and
vision to the North American operation to help expand Fujitsu's operations in
the Americas. I am confident that he will be an excellent leader and advocate
for FMA."
"I am pleased to have this new post in the U.S. I have many friends at FMA
and feel that I am back home," said James Machida. "FMA and its parent company
Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited in Japan are in transition. I have a mission
to expand FMA's business, to nurture U.S.-centric business opportunities to
become global forces, and be the engineering engine to help grow the Fujitsu
Microelectronics business worldwide."
Machida has been in the semiconductor business his entire career. In April
1984, he joined Fujitsu Limited in the North American Sales Support Division
in the Electronic Devices Group. After his assignment in the U.S., he returned
to Fujitsu Limited in 1995 to work in marketing and sales support for the Asia
Pacific region excluding Japan, in the Overseas Sales Support Division. In
April 1997, he was promoted to manager of marketing and sales support for the
European region.
In December 2001, he was promoted to marketing director with
responsibility for ASIC, networking and mobile products in the Global
Strategic Marketing Division of the Electronics Devices Group. Subsequently he
became a director and deputy general manager for global strategic marketing in
that same division.
Machida received his bachelor of science degree in economics from Keio
University, Tokyo.
