Reliant Technologies Introduces Two New Surgical Handpieces to Expand Capabilities of Fraxel re:pair Laser
KISSIMMEE, Fla., April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Reliant Technologies, Inc., the pioneer of fractional resurfacing and market leader of aesthetic laser skin treatments, will present long-term clinical data supporting the safety and efficacy of its Fraxel re:pair laser system during a roundtable of leading experts and through multiple podium presentations. Physician investigators will discuss their clinical experience and long-term data from more than 500 Fraxel re:pair treatments performed over the past three years of clinical study. The presentations will take place during the 28th American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) Annual Conference in Kissimmee, Fla. Reliant Technologies also announces pending U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance of two new surgical handpieces for the Fraxel re:pair laser system. The new incisional and bulk ablative handpieces will expand the capabilities of the Fraxel re:pair laser, a breakthrough device that has been clinically proven to improve wrinkles, rhytides, furrows, fine lines, textural irregularities, pigmented lesions and vascular dyschromia.
"With more than 500 procedures performed to date, the Fraxel re:pair laser is a breakthrough device for significant tissue tightening, wrinkle reduction and textural improvement, both on and off the face, with no delayed onset of hypopigmentation in subjects evaluated at nearly three years post-treatment," said Roy Geronemus, M.D., director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, New York, N.Y.
Reliant's clinical roundtable will take place at the Gaylord Palms Resort on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. Expert panelists include Christopher Zachary, FRCP, chair of the Department of Dermatology, University of California at Irvine; Roy Geronemus, M.D., director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, New York, NY; Richard Fitzpatrick, M.D., former president of the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, La Jolla, CA; Zakia Rahman, M.D., clinical instructor of dermatology at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, and medical director of the Fraxel(R) Laser Clinic; and Jill Waibel, MD, of the Palm Beach Esthetic Dermatology and Laser Center, who will perform a live Fraxel re:pair treatment at the conclusion of the roundtable.
Continuing to expand the capabilities of the Fraxel family of products, Reliant has developed new incisional and bulk ablative handpieces for the Fraxel re:pair system to provide physicians with a complete skin resurfacing and surgical treatment option. The surgical capabilities of the incisional handpiece will allow physicians to use the Fraxel re:pair system to perform laser blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid lifts. The bulk ablative handpiece will enable physicians to safely remove or excise soft tissue for the treatment of a variety of dermatological conditions. Both handpieces are now pending FDA clearance. By adding the surgical handpieces to the Fraxel re:pair system, physicians will be able to offer patients a complete cosmetic solution, addressing multiple skin conditions conveniently and safely.
"With the new surgical handpieces, we will have the flexibility to safely treat multiple skin indications during just one Fraxel re:pair procedure," said Howard Conn, M.D., ocular & general plastic surgeon and fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. "Adding surgical capabilities to the system will provide physicians with a one-stop treatment option for superior tightening of the skin, lifting of the upper eyelids and improvement of lines on the lower eyelids."

About the Fraxel Systems
The Fraxel(R) family of products, which includes the Fraxel re:pair(TM), Fraxel re:store(TM) and Fraxel re:fine(TM) laser systems, has quickly become the industry standard for fractional aesthetic skin treatment. Unlike laser devices of the past, Fraxel brand laser systems treat microscopic volumes of skin with each unique pulse, leaving the surrounding area intact for fast healing. Fraxel lasers have received multiple FDA clearances and have been found safe and effective in treating many areas of the face and body. The versatility of the product line ensures that patients can choose the best treatment for various stages of their lives as their skin care needs evolve.
The Fraxel re:pair laser is the breakthrough device that provides Ablative Fractional Resurfacing (AFRTM) treatment, with more clinical research than any product in the fractional ablative category. Fraxel re:pair treatment has been clinically proven to improve wrinkles, rhytides, furrows, fine lines, textural irregularities, pigmented lesions and vascular dyschromia in a multi-site, multi-year study.
The Fraxel re:store laser, delivering Non-ablative Fractional Resurfacing (NFRTM) treatment, was introduced in 2004 and has been adopted by more than 1,500 dermatologists, plastic surgeons and aesthetic physicians worldwide. It is the accepted gold standard for treating acne scars and periorbital wrinkles, and for skin resurfacing procedures on the face, neck, chest and hands.
The Fraxel re:fine laser, offering superficial non-invasive skin rejuvenation, combines the unique method of fractional delivery with a lighter treatment. Performed in 20-25 minutes, Fraxel re:fine treatment is excellent for medical spas and family physicians seeking a safe and gentle option.
