CARLSBAD, Calif. - (Business Wire) Forecast 3D and Directed MFG, leading providers of rapid prototyping, rapid manufacturing, direct digital manufacturing and injection molding services, today announced its work will appear on Discovery Channel’s
Prototype This! series. The series will feature technologies used for rapid product development and hopes to attract an audience along the likes of MythBusters.
During the Robotic Firefighter Assistant episode Forecast 3D rushes laser sintered parts to the Prototype This! team as they work to assemble the Pyro Pack -- a custom backpack designed to house dry-chem extinguishers, oxygen tanks and other electronics used by emergency firefighters.
“One of the most stimulating aspects of partnering with leading-edge companies is that we get to preview new products long before they’re introduced to consumers,” said Forecast 3D Sales & Marketing VP Tory Sirkin. “Additive technologies used in prototyping and direct digital manufacturing are a bit of a mystery to the general public, and we’re excited to be part of a program that will capture the attention of a larger audience as well as the nation’s most accomplished manufacturers and industrial designers.”
During the filming of Prototype This!, Forecast 3D delivered components for the Pyro Pack with Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) technology using EOS 2201 PA material. Forecast 3D also delivered a water-clear stereolithography (SLA) component for the headset and a polished Direct Metal Laser Sintered (DMLS) swiveling gimble. The Prototype This! team contracted Summit Design for laser scanning and Sputnik Models for finishing and paint.
The Discovery Channel’s Prototype This! Series launched October 15, 2008 and runs through January 7, 2009. The Robotic Firefighter Assistance episode airs:
- November 19, 2008 10:00pm
- November 20, 2008 2:00am
- November 23, 2008 11:00am
