IRVING, Texas - (Business Wire) Fluor Corporation (FLR: NYSE) announced today it was selected to conduct front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for a nitrogen oxide reduction program at the Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station in Warrington, Cheshire, England. Fluor is currently performing preliminary engineering and construction planning services for selective catalytic reduction of emissions at Scottish & Southern Energy’s (SSE) four-unit coal-fired power plant as well as providing client technical support and project cost estimation. “Building on our other SSE work on projects like the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm, our Fluor team is delighted to continue our excellent ongoing relationship with such an important player in the European power market,” said Mervyn Sambles, vice president of Fluor’s Power Group. “Clean energy initiatives are top of mind with business leaders and government officials alike. We are well-positioned to expand our service offerings for European power producers in this growing market segment.”
Fluor began a feasibility study in late 2008 with the FEED work expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2009. SSE is competitively bidding the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for this clean air initiative. Scottish & Southern Energy is the United Kingdom’s second largest provider of electricity.
“This is an important clean energy initiative in the UK and the larger European market,” said David Eppinger, vice president of Fluor’s Power Group. “Fluor is committed to assisting power generators like SSE to bolster their clean energy generation capacity.”
Fluor is a proven global leader in providing plant betterment EPC services to power generation clients worldwide. In addition to selective catalytic reduction, Fluor is performing multiple clean energy projects such as flue gas desulfurization and carbon capture projects using Fluor’s proven Econamine FG PlusSM technology.
