Fast food chains are often blamed for the increasing rates of childhood obesity. A recent poll by Fitness.com.au however finds that 80% of people think that parents should shoulder the responsibility.

(PRWEB) November 9, 2009 -- If you thought fast food chains, and video games were behind Australia’s obesity epidemic, think again. Mum and Dad are more than just innocent bystanders. A recent survey commissioned for Fitness.com.au revealed that 4 in 5 respondents thought that parents were the most at fault when it comes to weight problems in children.

The poll question simply asked “Of these, who do you think is most to blame for childhood obesity?”, with results as follows:

According to Fitness.com.au Spokesperson, Craig Seitam, “The results are staggering. We went into this poll believing that the blame would be balanced out among the choices, however the results show exactly how strongly the community feels about this problem”

“That’s not to say that the fast food industry is off the hook. They still rank a definite second, and need to keep making responsible menu decisions. However, the strong message coming from our poll is that parents need to look to themselves to make the decisions that really count.”

Launched recently, Fitness.com.au (part of the Business.com.au network) is an online directory featuring Australian Fitness Professionals and health information.

*Survey conducted October/November 2009 by Craig Bradley Market Engineering Pty Ltd, source CompetitionsGuide.com.au . Over 1,000 responses recorded without duplication from respondents with verified details.
