PASO ROBLES, Calif., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- FireCrystals(R) fireplace glass is a more healthful, environmentally friendly alternative to wood for fireplaces and fire pits, according to a recent rating by Degree Of Green(TM), a program that helps consumers determine the green and healthy aspects of home and building products.

The rating comes as many communities across the U.S., including San Francisco, CA, Denver, CO and Phoenix, AZ, are banning wood burning in outdoor and indoor fireplaces and fire pits in order to reduce carbon emissions.
"People can now use their fireplaces and fire pits without worrying about violating the law or contributing to pollution with carbon toxins," said Steven Stegall, president of FireCrystals(R).
FireCrystals(R) are a direct replacement for wood or gas logs in natural gas fireplaces and fire pits providing as much heat as burning wood. FireCrystals(R) fireplace glass come in many colors and blends and are heated by natural gas.
The Degree Of Green(TM) program gave FireCrystals(R) a 4 -- its top rating in the health category -- calling use of the tempered glass crystals "100 percent better" than burning wood. The program noted that 50 percent of the glass used in FireCrystals(R) is from recycled sources, never loses their ability to radiate heat, nor degrade or lose color, raising their position as a sustainable product. Heated with a natural gas flame, FireCrystals(R), as noted by Degree Of Green(TM), such burning does not release harmful particulate matter as does wood burning.
"Degree Of Green(TM) explains for consumers and retailers why our product is green, why it fits into providing a solution to help the environment and humans," Stegall said. "Many of our customers look for a green product and find themselves in a unique design project because FireCrystals(R) are so elegant. Using their style preferences customers create something very personal for their green environment."
Degree Of Green(TM) is a product rating system created by Wisconsin green building products expert Andy Pace. He and other building experts rate products based on their effects on human health, environmental sustainability, and effects on the environment.
