PORTLAND, OR -- 02/28/08 --
Film Action Oregon (FAO) and Box Office
Tickets Inc. (BOT) have teamed up to provide a community box office
solution for Portland area organizations -- the PDX Ticket Network(TM).
Now, local Portland organizations can sell tickets over the Internet and
offer their patrons walk-up services 7 days a week, through the FAO-staffed
office at the Hollywood Theatre -- all at no charge to their organization.
Initially funded in part by FAO and BOT, the new ticketing and networking
services enable the local Portland community to provide more convenient
services to their patrons -- while saving money, maintaining greater
control over their ticketing, and working together to share services and
sell more tickets.
"Our goals are simple," says George Domurot, President/CEO of Box Office
Ticket Inc. "Provide excellent service at a lower price, while keeping it
simple, local and part of the community."
Keeping costs reasonable
To keep the costs low, FAO is donating front-office services and staffing
for a 7-days-a-week box office at Hollywood Theatre on NE Sandy Boulevard
for walk-up sales and service. Rehabilitation of one of the Theatre's
storefronts into a new box office location is expected to be completed in
June 2008. Partial funding for the construction has already been provided
through a grant to FAO from the Oregon Cultural Trust.
BOT is donating the back of the house software, support and infrastructure
that will enable organizations to access and manage their shows and events,
send out promotions, sell tickets, and transact other business over the
Internet.
The network is open to all theaters and groups with ticketing needs in the
Portland area. There is no fee to join the network. For example, groups
selling a $20 ticket through the network will get $20 back for each sale.
Customers pay a small service fee of $1 and five percent of the ticket
price for the convenience of using the online network or on-site walk-up
services at the Hollywood Theatre venue box office. Five cents of each
ticket sold on the network will go into a community fund, which, at the end
of the year, is donated to a local non-profit.
FAO has long been involved with local film and community events, most
notably through its programming at the Hollywood Theatre. BOT has a long
history of helping non-profits to leverage the Internet to promote events,
sell tickets and conduct other transactions.
"This arrangement is groundbreaking for all participants," says Richard
Beer, Artistic Director of Film Action Oregon. "Many local groups are
already on shoe-string budgets, don't have box office expertise, or only
produce ticketed events once or twice a year. The new network community
ticketing arrangement will help them to reduce their costs while offering
more high-end services to their patrons. This is also just the beginning
of services we are planning to bring to the Portland community."
