IRVING, Texas - (Business Wire) Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) announced today a donation of $1.5 million for disaster relief assistance in Louisiana resulting from Hurricane Gustav.

The physical damage from Gustavs hurricane force winds has been devastating, particularly in south Louisiana, said Rex W. Tillerson, chairman and chief executive officer.

Hundreds of thousands of people will be without power for several more weeks and their homes have sustained serious water and wind damage. We hope our contribution will make a meaningful difference in the affected communities.

ExxonMobils donation is being directed to the American Red Cross and the Capital Area United Way in Baton Rouge, which was among the hardest hit areas.

The Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund provides food, shelter, counseling and other assistance to the victims of this disaster and thousands of other disasters across the country each year. The Capital Area United Way serves a 10-parish area, which includes the parishes of Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St. James, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana.

ExxonMobil employs more than 4,500 employees and contractors in the Baton Rouge area, where it has operated a refinery for nearly 100 years. Also in Baton Rouge, ExxonMobil operates a chemical plant, polyolefins plant, plastics plant, lubricants plant, pipelines and the Anchorage Chemical Terminal.

Elsewhere in Louisiana, ExxonMobil operates the Chalmette refinery in St. Bernard Parish southeast of New Orleans, where it employs about 600 people. The company also has oil and gas production operations offshore Gulf of Mexico and in a number of onshore locations throughout Louisiana, most notably in Grand Isle. ###
