Krypton is a modern interpretation of "the bag box" of the 70s - with the
rigid wooden frame and bag of fiber balls having been replaced by Eilersen's
legendary comfort, stylish lines and modern body language. The original
simplicity is still intact, but the bag box has now been transformed into a
modular, elegant sofa with exceptional comfort and softness.
"The idea was to create a classic and simple - but still substantial -
luxury sofa," says designer Jens Juul Eilersen. "Comfort and a balance between
hard and soft lines was my ultimate goal. I also strived to reach a very
unique 'elevator' effect and 'functional comfort' where you are seated softly
without tilting," Jens Juul Eilersen continues.
In order to create the impression of sitting "in" the sofa rather than on
it, Krypton's seat has been integrated into the body with significantly more
foam than that what is normally the case. This provides both extraordinary
stability and the sensation of sitting low, while at the same time making it
easy to get up and out of again - creating the effect of lift. The thick core
of foam at the top of the seat is upholstered with down to provide the
distinctive, legendary, soft Eilersen look, and the broad cushions for both
the back and arms are filled with 100% feathers. The thin exterior shell
creates a perfect illusion of the wooden box of the bag chair and puts the
finishing touch to the interplay between hard and soft lines.
The Krypton comes in a modular system comprised of pieces with corners,
end caps, with and without armrests and a chaise. Extra down cushions (60 x 60
cm) are also available.
Eilersen will be showcasing the Krypton sofa May 17-20, 2008 at booth
# 802 at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Jacob K. Javits
Convention Center in New York.
