SANTA MONICA, Calif. - (Business Wire) Edmunds.com, the premier online resource for automotive information, has noticed a recent boost in Web shopping traffic, suggesting that this weekend car dealerships may enjoy an uptick in sales.

Car shopping on Edmunds.com is up about 10 percent from recent weeks.

“It seems that value-seeking new car shoppers are being enticed by the chorus of automaker year-end sales events that have already started,” remarked Edmunds.com CEO Jeremy Anwyl. “During a recession, bargain messages resonate louder and create bigger upswings than normal.”

Edmunds.com maintains a comprehensive database of national and regional automaker incentives and rebates at http://www.edmunds.com/incentives/RebateController?step=0.

Based on current sales trends, Edmunds.com anticipates that November sales will total approximately 710,000 units, generating a Seasonally Adjusted Annualized Rate (SAAR) of 10.34, down from 10.43 million in October 2009. Edmunds.com analysts believe there is a possible upside depending on the strength of the weekend.

“Every holiday weekend provides a marketing opportunity for car dealers,” commented Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Jessica Caldwell. “Even with the long Thanksgiving weekend, however, November tends to be one of the worst months of the year for car sales. Historically, only January – when many people are still recovering from holiday gift shopping sprees – is a worse sales month.”
