SUNNYVALE, Calif. - (Business Wire) Dune Networks, a provider of networking devices for Metro Ethernet, Enterprise and Data Center platforms, announced today the availability of the P330, a new member in its PETRA family. The P330 integrates complete 80Gbps full-duplex line card functionality into a single device addressing Data Center and Carrier Access requirements.

By integrating packet processing into the PETRA line of devices, the PETRA solution now offers the ability to design high-density switching line cards ranging from 24 to 48 10GE ports for Data Center and Carrier Access applications. For the first time this enables a no-compromise switching system design, including a strictly non-blocking fabric, 100ms packet buffer and densities of up to 768 ports of 10GE or 40GE/100GE equivalent with a single stage fabric. Furthermore, the P330 enables the build of switching systems featuring power and cost metrics similar to legacy 1GE switching systems.

The P330 incorporates a flexible packet processor using micro-code engines. The packet processor is purpose built for Data Center and Metro Access applications. Packet-processing features include comprehensive L2 bridging, L3 IPv4 and IPv6 unicast and multicast routing, flexible L2/L3/L4 aware ACLs. For Data Centers, the P330 offers additional benefits such as enhanced TCP performance, TCP starvation avoidance, Lossless Ethernet support, high fan-out ECMPs and LAGs, security and policing, and virtualization support.

The PETRA P330 device supports a wide range of PHY interfaces. Each interface has the ability to run at its native speed or higher. The interfaces include XAUI, XAUI+ (SPAUI), RXAUI, SGMII and SGMII+. RXAUI is similar to XAUI, but uses two lanes at 6.25Gbps; SGMII+ is like SGMII, but running at up to 5Gbps for Multi-service Access Network (MSAN) applications, such as 2.5G GPON.

An entire product line can be built using P330. Several P330s may be connected via a mesh (fabric-less) configuration to form non-blocking configurations with total capacity up to 240Gbps. Such configurations are suitable for Pizza-box solutions, or as central switch and processing cards in Ethernet backplane solutions. For strictly non-blocking configurations with a capacity higher than 240Gbps, Switch Fabric devices (e.g., FE600) are used to interconnect P330 devices, enabling the system to scale up to 100Tbps. Such configurations are typically chassis-based, with line cards based on the P330 or other Petra/FAP devices.

Next generation data centers will include hundreds to thousands of 10GE servers coupled with 40GE/100GE aggregation systems that push the DC infrastructure requirement of performance, density and scalability to new levels, noted Jag Bolaria, Senior Editor with The Linley Group. The introduction of the P330 together with the Paran reference system positions Dune as a premier provider of high-end data center switching products.

The P330s embedded packet processing engine was designed specifically for scalable Data Center and Carrier access applications, said Ofer Iny, CTO of Dune Networks. By leveraging Dunes leading switching fabric and traffic management technologies, the P330 enables our customers to cost effectively design strictly non-blocking, highly scalable switching machines with large buffers and purpose-built packet processing. The P330's buffering capabilities guarantee ideal goodput and fairness for TCP traffic under any load, while its low latency and active congestion management insures best in class performance for FCoE and HPC traffic.

PARAN Reference platform

To demonstrate the PETRA P330s capabilities Dune developed the PARAN reference design. At a height of only 6 rack units, Paran delivers 128x10GE ports (extendable to 192x10GE) with full-wire, strictly non-blocking performance. The PARAN reference design demonstrates the density, scalability and performance enabled by the P330.

The PARAN reference design will be demonstrated at Supercomputing 2008, held on Nov 16-19 in Austin, Texas.

Availability and Pricing

Dune Networks is currently sampling the P330 to selected customers. Pricing is available upon request.
