SAN FRANCISCO and NEW YORK, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Dow Jones VentureSource today announced it is partnering with the Angel Capital Education Foundation (ACEF), the educational affiliate of the Angel Capital Association, to raise the visibility of the earliest stages of innovation investment. Together, ACEF and Dow Jones VentureSource will gather and report on angel organization investment in United States.
Transaction details will be made available in the VentureSource database and the organizations will jointly present quarterly statistics to the public as well as clarify trends emerging in early-stage angel investing.
"This is an outstanding partnership, not just for VentureSource and AECF but for the venture capital industry as a whole," said Jessica Canning, Global Director of Research for Dow Jones VentureSource. "Angel investing is such an integral and vital component of the venture capital ecosystem and, together with ACEF, we'll now be able to shine a spotlight on what's really happening in this truly innovative area of early stage development. After all, some of today's biggest and most successful companies were started with the help of angel investors."
John Huston, ACEF Chair, noted that the partnership will provide new information on an important component of angel investors. "The project focuses specifically on angel groups, which serve as a centerpiece of early- stage investing and deal-flow in many communities and which include some of the most sophisticated angel investors in the world."
Unlike typical venture capitalists, who manage funds of pooled capital, "angel" investors often invest their own money-as much as $1 million-to aid enterprenuerial companies in the earliest stages of development. About 10,000 accredited investors belong to angel groups, in which individual angels band together to evaluate start-up deals and make investments.
The first quarterly report and joint-presentation on angel investing should be made available to media in the second half of 2008.
