” sculpture series.
On September 18, more than 2,000 GEICO associates will gather to celebrate the company’s anniversary milestones and see the sculpture unveiled. Joining them at the GEICO campus will be Virginia Beach Mayor Meyera Oberndorf; Mike Hughes, president and CEO of United Way of South Hampton Roads; Donald Jellig, chairman of the Virginia Development Authority; and GEICO chairman and CEO Tony Nicely.
“We hope the sculpture is viewed as a physical statement of our commitment to Virginia Beach and its residents,” said Joe Thomas, GEICO’s Virginia Beach regional vice president. “Our associates encouraged us to be a Dolphin’s Promise sponsor, and they took on every phase of the design project for the sculpture. We’re all waiting to see what they came up with.”
The Dolphin’s Promise sculpture project in Virginia Beach helps raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation for cancer research and for the Virginia Aquarium Standing Response Program to help save and protect marine life. Sponsors financially support the program and each sponsor designs and displays its own unique life-size dolphin sculpture.
“We think of our Dolphin’s Promise sculpture as a rededication to providing first-rate service to our customers, raising money to find a cure for cancer, and letting the Hampton Roads community know how grateful we are for their support,” noted Thomas.
He added, “Our associates are responsible for our success in Virginia Beach. I want to thank them for their hard work and loyalty through our years here. We know GEICO’s future is bright in the Hampton Roads communities because of them.”
