HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 4 AL-DIATHERIX-at-MiSN

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- DIATHERIX Laboratories, Inc. (DIATHERIX) (www.DIATHERIX.com), today presented at the Michigan Security Network Homeland Security Market Leadership Conference in Dearborn, Mich. Dennis Grimaud, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DIATHERIX, explained the impact of the company's advanced molecular diagnostic testing on bio-preparedness, pandemic response, infectious disease diagnosis and military efforts.

"This conference is especially timely because last week Congress reported the government is failing to properly address the urgent and immediate threat of biological terrorism. If our country were faced with a biological attack, fast and accurate testing would be critical in properly containing the outbreak and properly treating victims," said Grimaud. "In addition, in light of the current H1N1 pandemic, it was an opportune time to discuss how early, simultaneous detection of the H1N1 strain and bacterial co-infections can help effectively identify and treat those patients at highest risk and control the spread of the virus."

DIATHERIX uses Target Enriched Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction (Tem-PCR), the company's proprietary molecular technology, to test for multiple pathogens, both viral and bacterial in a single test. Patient results are available the next day, providing physicians with quick and accurate information from which to develop an effective course of treatment.

During the conference, where more than 20 presenters discussed biotechnology and biodefense, Grimaud also addressed Tem-PCR's military application. "Our technology can also detect infectious agents from multiple environmental sample types," said Grimaud. If we detect these agents in regions where our military serves, we can take preventive measures to protect them."

The Michigan Security Network (MiSN) is a non-profit organization that serves as a platform to accelerate technology development, investment and jobs in the state of Michigan in the fast-growing homeland security sector. This is the organization's first technology conference. "Our market analysis on existing technology gaps in homeland security and our work with technology companies have given the MiSN an insider's understanding of the innovations available in the marketplace, like Diatherix," said MiSN Chief Executive Officer and Founder Leslie Touma. "Our goal is to serve as a market connector, serving a critical role in bringing together technology creators with the businesses and first responders that will use their leading edge advancements to save lives -- whether it's swine flu, new pandemics or biodefense on the battlefield."

DIATHERIX Laboratories, Inc. is located in the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Huntsville, Ala. DIATHERIX operates as an independent high complexity CLIA-certified clinical laboratory providing advanced multiplex molecular diagnostic services to assist healthcare providers in the detection of infectious disease.
