On Friday, Aug. 15, at 1 p.m., the DAAS marching band will help lead the
"Parade of Nations," kicking-off Detroit's largest ethnic festival. On

2 News voted the marching band "Best in Detroit." The vocalists in the
school's Male Quartet will perform before the Festival's international crowd

talent is a primary goal at DAAS.
"Our performing arts program, in partnership with the Music Hall and the
Opera House, is one of the best in metro Detroit," says DAAS District
Superintendent, Stan Bowman. "It consists of radio, TV, film, graphic arts,
recording engineering, music and marching band, orchestra, drama, vocal and

Medbury campus may also register at the Jefferson location.
DAAS has now graduated its fifth high school class and boasts of a 97
percent graduation rate, with 99 percent of those graduates accepted to
college. DAAS students travel on an educational tour of African nations and
the dance students have trained at Masters' workshops, conducted by the
world-famous Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Bowman says, "We encourage
our schools, families and students, as well as the community and government,
to work together to create a safe, positive environment for children, in order
to inspire them to reach their full potential."
To enroll a student, parents must bring the birth certificate,
immunization records and the student's most recent report card. For more
