Southern has been appointed secretary/treasurer of the National Association of
Corrosion Engineers' (NACE) Rocky Mountain Section.
Southern leads business development activities for FreeWave Technologies,
a leading designer and manufacturer of spread spectrum wireless solutions.
Southern has 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, mining,
hazardous waste remediation, petrochemical and refining industries. Prior to
joining FreeWave, he was a Business Manager for an Emerson Process Management
representative. In 1978, as a summer intern on an offshore oil production
platform, Southern learned firsthand the basics of corrosion prevention and
the everyday importance cathodic protection plays in mission critical
operations. He has authored or co-authored several U.S. patents and has been
published in several industry magazines including Pipeline & Gas Technology,
POWER, American Oil & Gas Reporter and Compressor Tech II. He is a 1982
graduate of the School of Mines.

The Rocky Mountain Section serves NACE membership in the states of Wyoming,
Colorado and New Mexico as well as parts of Utah, Arizona, Nebraska, and
Oklahoma. The organization meets once a month to discuss the latest
advancements in corrosion prevention as well as sponsors an annual Short
Course in the spring of each year, attended by over 500 CP professionals in
2008.
