DETROIT, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of North Carolina's Daily Tar Heel has selected the new CrystalType system for its online edition, calling it "stable, user-friendly and affordable." Officials point out that CrystalType will also allow the Daily Tar Heel to maximize the earning potential of its Web site.
Built on Drupal, CrystalType is a new CMS online publishing platform developed as a joint venture between Switchback (a CMS specialist based in Ann Arbor, Michigan) and Stunt3 Multimedia (a Detroit technology firm). The system offers a wide array of features out of the box, allowing users to easily create, edit, publish and manage all types of content - text, photos, video, audio and other multimedia. It integrates with all major social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter.
When officials at the Daily Tar Heel saw CrystalType in action, they knew it was the perfect solution for their online edition (www.dailytarheel.com).
"CrystalType has proven to be the stable, user-friendly CMS we were looking for, at an affordable price," said Kevin Schwartz, General Manager of the Daily Tar Heel. "The features are customizable by our staff, and the support and training have been top-notch. Traffic has never been higher."
Brian Kruger, President of Stunt3 Multimedia, pointed out that unlike some other online systems, CrystalType allows a college publication to maximize its earning potential. "A college newspaper should be able to keep all the revenue it generates from its Web site," Kruger said. "CrystalType does that. It also integrates with Google AdManager and AdSense, giving publications the opportunity to earn money from national ads, as well. If a college publication isn't capturing all the revenue generated by its Web site, it's potentially losing thousands of dollars a month."
Because it's easy to use, CrystalType is the perfect solution for college publications, which naturally have a lot of turnover. "It only takes a few minutes to learn how to place stories, blogs, photos and multimedia, and how to manage the content," said Michael Monan, co-founder of Switchback. "And because it's built on Drupal, it's very stable and robust, and allows for easy upgrades. Blogging platforms handle one thing - blogging. CrystalType, on the other hand, also handles all types of content that online publishers require."
