FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA -- 10/20/08 --
D-Link, the end-to-end networking
solutions provider for consumer and business, today announced the
availability of SECURESPOT® 2.0 Professional Strength Internet Security
and Parental Control Services in three of its most popular 802.11n routers.
Designed to accommodate the growing needs of the home broadband network,
D-Link is offering its advanced whole-home Internet security service
integrated with its DIR-655 Xtreme N(TM) Gigabit, DIR-625 RangeBooster N®
and DIR-628 RangeBooster N Dual Band Routers and the DSD-150 Internet
Security Adapter.
By integrating Internet security and parental controls into the router,
D-Link lightens the load on the PC and brings professional strength
technology to the consumer, such as remote management, centrally managed
URL databases updated in real-time, and whole-home protection for all
Internet devices on the network, not just PCs. Most features are provided
out-of-the-box without installing any software on PCs, making it easy for
the head of the network household to protect and manage Internet usage to
keep the entire family protected.
"Security is a fundamental and overdue service needed at the hub of the
connected home," says Daniel Kelley, senior director of marketing for
D-Link Systems, Inc. "We believe SECURESPOT 2.0 Services are an easier and
more effective way to protect both family and network. Future consumers can
avoid purchasing bulky security and parental controls packages and loading
them separately onto each PC."
The graphical web-based console with its managed back-end services
discovers and protects new devices as the network grows -- guest computers,
media centers, Microsoft® Xbox 360®, Nintendo® Wii®, Sony®
PSP®, PS3, iPod Touch and other browser-enabled networked devices. It
also provides remote management capabilities to allow anytime/anywhere
access to monitor or configure all services.
The SECURESPOT 2.0 Family Protection package provides industry-leading
parental controls using a massive 62 million URL database in 17 languages,
updated with an average of 20,000 URLs daily to keep pace with the dynamic
nature of the Internet.
As a router-based solution, SECURESPOT 2.0 not only takes the load off the
PC, it also controls Internet usage at the central point of Internet
access. For the connected home, it delivers stronger protection than
software programs while regulating all Internet-capable devices, such as
the network-enabled game consoles used by more than 150 million gamers.
Unique to other consumer software or hardware solutions, SECURESPOT 2.0 is
a hosted security service that protects at both the network and computer
layers, replacing the need for separate solutions. This multilayer
technology, once accessible only to large companies, is now available to
the home user.
To enable endpoint security, when a computer is added to the network,
SECURESPOT 2.0 detects it and offers to load a very thin client application
(including the McAfee® Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware engine) that protects
computers from malware, ID theft and pop-ups both within the network and
while on the road.
Key Features Include:
-- Easy-to-use graphical Web-based remote management console for
anywhere/anytime access and intuitive setup and management
-- Out-of-the-box protection provides basic safeguards with zero
configuration
-- Router-based Parental Controls protect children from inappropriate
content and enforce suitable Internet usage limits for all Internet-enabled
devices in the home
-- URL Reporting to monitor online activity remotely, and text message or
email alerts to notify parents of inappropriate usage
-- Prevents web threats from entering the home by blocking sites known to
host malware
-- Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware utilizing McAfee® technology for superior
protection
-- Firewall protection to protect against hackers -- settings can be
managed remotely
-- Access Control prevents unauthorized devices from using your Internet
connection
-- Pop-up and spam blocker
SECURESPOT 2.0 is available with two packages. Family Protection,
including parental controls for an unlimited number of devices, is $30 per
year. Total protection, including endpoint security for three PCs, is $60
annually with a "pay as you grow" model that licenses additional PCs at $20
each. The SECURESPOT 2.0 service is available with the DIR-655 (MSRP:
$149.99), the DIR-625 (MSRP: $119.99), the DIR-628 (MSRP: $119.99) and the
