WASHINGTON - (Business Wire) Today, CTIA-The Wireless Association® President and CEO Steve Largent issued the following statement after testifying on distracted driving before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection and Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet on distracted driving: "CTIA appreciated the opportunity to testify at today’s hearing to discuss the important issue of distracted driving and how to stop it. “We remain supportive of bans on manual texting and emailing while driving. We also believe in mobile device restrictions for teen and novice drivers as they need to focus on learning how to be better drivers. “The wireless industry has a long track record of working to educate wireless consumers of all ages about safe driving and responsible wireless use. For almost ten years, the association and many of our members have independently developed education campaigns. Most recently, CTIA partnered with the National Safety Council this year to release our teen-focused ‘On the Road, Off the Phone’ campaign with a TV public service announcement and Web site. “We also believe that there is no single solution to the problem of distracted driving, and for that reason, we encourage new technological solutions and state and local legislation that can contribute to safer driving." CTIA is the international association for the wireless telecommunications industry, representing carriers, manufacturers and wireless Internet providers. www.ctia.org CTIA-The Wireless Association Amy Storey, 202-736-3207
