BOSTON - (Business Wire) IDG Communications technology media brands have been recognized with six Neal Awards and the prestigious Grand Neal at the annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards in New York. Also, at the awards ceremony last week, organized by American Business Media (ABM), PC World Vice President and Editor-in-chief Harry McCracken received the Timothy White award for editorial integrity.

CSO (Chief Security Officer) won Best Single Article and the Grand Neal award for Red Gold Rush, a special report in the February 2007 issue on how the construction boom in China is leading to the theft of semi-precious metals in the U.S. http://www.csoonline.com/read/020107/fea_metal.html.

Computerworld won three online awards in its category including Best Web Site; www.computerworld.com.

Best Online Article, A Week of Leopard http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do? command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9045689 and Best Blog http://blogs.computerworld.com/.

PC World captured two Neal awards. Windows Vista coverage was recognized in the Best Subject-related Series of Articles category http://www.pcworld.com/tags/Microsoft+Windows+Vista.html and McCrackens techlog earned a Neal for Best Staff-written Editorials or Opinion Columns http://blogs.pcworld.com/techlog/.

To be honored with six Neal awards and the coveted Grand Neal is both very gratifying and an authoritative third-party validation of the editorial excellence of IDG media brands, said Bob Carrigan, CEO, IDG Communications. The Computerworld sweep in its online category is testament to the success of IDGs transformation to an online technology media company.

Since 1971, IDG has won almost 60 Neal Awards, including five Grand Neals. IDG has more Neal awards than any other technology media company.

Timothy White Award

PC Worlds Harry McCracken is the third IDG editor to be selected for the Timothy White Award for Editorial Integrity since 2004.

In the media world, if you dont have readers who trust you, you dont have a business, period, McCracken once wrote. ABM said: His statement gets to the heart of why editorial standards and integrity should matter to publishers as well as to reporters: Reader trust is what drives advertisers to certain publications in the first place.

About the Neal Awards

The Jesse H. Neal Awards, which have been called "the Pulitzer Prize of the business media," are the industry's most prestigious and sought-after editorial honors. Named after the ABMs first managing director, who remained active in promoting the business press throughout his life, the Neal Awards were established in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in business media publications. Past Neal winners and finalists have tackled controversial topics including corruption, kickbacks, and political conflicts of interest.
