OTTAWA - (Business Wire) CryptoMetrics Inc., a leading global provider of biometric-enabled critical infrastructure and key asset protection systems, announced that it has successfully deployed a Wanted Person Face Recognition System in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). CryptoMetrics worked in collaboration with its exclusive partner in the Middle East and North Africa region, BioDentity Systems L.L.C.
In making the announcement, Robert Barra, Co-CEO of CryptoMetrics, stated that “the Wanted Person Face Recognition System being deployed by the Government will make the United Arab Emirates the first Nation to install a proactive and comprehensive critical infrastructure protection and warning system based on face recognition.”
The system’s initial installation is in the Abu Dhabi International Airport with enrolment stations located across the UAE. As confirmed at its launch on July 14 by General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, the system will now be expanded to all ports of entry throughout the UAE.
CryptoMetrics Chief Strategy Officer, Joel Shaw, who led the UAE project with technology development from the company’s technical research and development facility in Kanata, Ontario, explained the importance of this security enhancement: “Border security has entered the 21st century with the deployment of this technology. Countries are now capable of identifying, detecting, interdicting and preventing the entry of persons who are security or criminal risks. CryptoMetrics offers an affordable, mature security technology solution for jurisdictions intent on enhancing border security and public safety.”
Deployment of the UAE Wanted Person Face Recognition System comes at a time when Canada’s border security capacity to identify and prevent entry of inadmissible persons, including previous criminal deportees, is under public question following a critical Auditor General report and a series of high profile crimes committed by persons who were criminally inadmissible to Canada.
“This technology can help make Canada a safer place, save tens of millions of dollars in after the fact, preventable enforcement measures and continue the Canadian government’s admirable track record of progress in border security and public safety,” said CSO Shaw.
CryptoMetrics, Inc. produces biometric-enabled systems designed to protect the critical infrastructure and key assets of a nation and its business, as well as contribute to the well being of citizens and visitors. CryptoMetrics technology is used across the world by countries seeking to enhance security while facilitating the processing of persons travelling, crossing borders and acquiring passports and identification documents.
CryptoMetrics develops and deploys state-of-the-art face recognition-based systems for enhancing the security of the UAE and countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region under a twenty-five year exclusive partnership with the Ministry of Interior of the UAE and BioDentity Systems L.L.C.
