Veterans comprise 10 percent of company's national work force

Nashville, Tenn. (Vocus) November 5, 2009 -- Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) is honoring military servicepersons and veterans as Veteran's Day approaches on November 11, 2009. Approximately 10 percent of the company's national employee base of nearly 17,500 is comprised of veterans.

"Within CCA culture, we often recognize active-duty military servicemen and servicewomen and veterans because they mean so much to our company and country," said Damon Hininger, CCA president and chief executive officer. "That approximately one out of every ten of our hardworking employees is a veteran is especially meaningful. That says something about the strength and appeal of our company."

CCA has been nationally recognized by leading publications and organizations for its efforts in recruiting veterans. G.I. Jobs magazine, a popular resource for veterans seeking post-Service employment, has twice ranked CCA among the nation's top military-friendly employers.

Other CCA correctional facilities have also been praised for their efforts and success in providing lasting, vital careers to veterans. Diamondback Correctional Facility in Watonga, Okla., this summer was named the state's top military-friendly employer in the "large company" category by Disabled American Veterans (DAV). CCA has also been named by The American Legion's National Economics Commission as a top employer in recognition of efforts in recruiting and employing military veterans at its Stewart Detention Center, located in Lumpkin, Ga.

"CCA has been hiring veterans since our founding more than 25 years ago," said Brian Collins, CCA executive vice president and chief human resources officer. "In fact, one of our company's co-founders, Tom Beasley, is a West Point graduate and veteran. The cultures of the military and corrections complement each other in ways that attract the best and brightest among the military's ranks."

In honor of Veteran's Day, CCA employees across the country are sharing their thoughts about country and commitment to service on the company's online news site, InsideCCA.com. Visit CCA's special Veteran's Day section to see what they are saying.

About CCA CCA is the nation's largest owner and operator of government-contracted correctional and detention facilities, operating 65 facilities, including 44 company-owned facilities, with approximately 87,000 beds, in 19 states and the District of Columbia. In addition to providing the residential services for inmates, CCA facilities offer rehabilitation and educational programs, including education, vocation, religious services, life skills and employment training and substance abuse treatment.
