INSTITUTE ON AGING HOLDS TOPPING OFF CEREMONY UPON COMPLETION OF STEEL STRUCTURE OF NEW SENIOR CARE AND HOUSING CAMPUS

The steel frame of the Institute on Aging Senior Campus being constructed at 3575 Geary Boulevard in San Francisco will be “topped off” on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 11:30AM, completing a significant milestone for the building that will serve as a new model of comprehensive health care and housing for San Francisco’s burgeoning senior population.

The ceremony celebrates the successful completion of the structured framework that will become the six-story, 230,310-square-foot building designed by TWM and Tsang Architecture. In the heart of San Francisco’s Richmond District, the breakthrough Senior Campus will join other landmarks in the city known for innovation. The Senior Campus will open in the fall 2010.

Dr. David Werdegar, President and CEO of Institute on Aging will host the topping off celebration. Don Lusty, Project Manager for Bridge Housing will acknowledge the unique combination of housing and health care services. Chuck Palley,

President of Cahill Contractors, Inc, will comment on the complexities of the construction on Geary Boulevard. Anne Hinton, Director of San Francisco’s Department of Aging and Adult Services will cite IOA’s leadership in the provision of senior services to Bay Area residents. A toast will be offered by Robert L. Sockolov, Chair of IOA’s Board of Directors to thank all involved.

IOA’s Senior Campus will provide comprehensive senior services under one roof with low-cost housing, health care and community programs. The Campus will provide an all-inclusive healthcare program, a senior fitness and rehabilitation center, psychological and social services, and art programs and galleries. Affordable housing with 150 apartments will be managed by BRIDGE Housing.

“With this phase of the construction complete, and as the Senior Campus takes shape on Geary Boulevard, IOA will be greatly expanding its services to older adults. The Campus will allow our seniors to live comfortably, safely and as independently as possible within our community,” said Dr. David Werdegar, IOA’s President/CEO.

The non-profit Institute on Aging is a leader in innovative services for seniors. Since its inception over 30 years ago as a first-of-its-kind program in geriatrics and adult day health care, IOA continues to pioneer programs, research, and education to assist older adults to live independently in the community.
