The Corning Museum of Glass hosts its annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 5, and Sunday, December 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During this weekend, admission is free to all visitors.
Corning, NY (Vocus) November 18, 2009 -- The Corning Museum of Glass hosts its annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 5, and Sunday, December 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
During this weekend, admission is free to all visitors. In addition to the daily offerings of exhibitions, Hot Glass Shows and other glassmaking demos, the Museum also will offer the following festive activities:
*Live holiday music by local groups and choirs.
*Holiday crafts (nominal fee) and treats (free).
*Visit with Santa (free) or have a photo taken with Santa (fee).
*The Museum’s second annual glass ornament tree: 14-feet tall with more than 2,000 handmade ornaments.
*Breakfast with Santa (8:30 a.m. both days) or Lunch with Santa (12:00 p.m. both days). $5.00 per person, per meal. Entertainment by Sylvia and the Magic Trunk. Spots fill quickly and reservations are required. Call (607) 974-4084 or (607) 974-8006.
Visitors to the event are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for children in need; these items will be distributed to local charities.
Discounted Make Your Own Glass experiences will be available on a first-come, first-served basis each day of the event. Visitors may blow holiday ornaments or form flowers for $10.00, or create flameworked icicles, fused flat-glass ornaments, or sandblasted glasses for $5.00. Age restrictions apply to some activities. The Museum’s Studio also holds its Annual Studio Glass Sale this weekend, featuring one-of-a-kind handmade glass objects by the artists and students who worked at The Studio this past year. Proceeds from the sale support The Studio’s Scholarship and Artist-in-Residence fund.
