PHOENIX, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- UFCW Local 99 has announced their endorsement of Flagstaff City Councilmember Kara Kelty for the Arizona Corporation Commission.
"Kara Kelty has the intelligence, integrity, and courage to move Arizona to clean, renewable energy," said Jim McLaughlin, President of UFCW Local 99, "and the new industries and jobs that will create."
Kelty, a Flagstaff Democrat, is completing her second term on the Flagstaff City Council where she has compiled a distinguished record on behalf of working families. Earlier this year Kelty was awarded the prestigious Marshall Memorial Fund Fellowship given "to the best and brightest from all sectors, including politics, media, business, and nongovernmental organizations." Kelty's fellowship allowed her to spend a month in Europe studying how other countries are converting to clean energy and creating new jobs, oftentimes using technology either created or available in the United States.
McLaughlin added that he and Local 99 members across Arizona are joining Kelty's "campaign for clean energy" because both the economic and environmental costs of current energy policies are putting our families and our future at risk.
"Kara Kelty has a well-deserved reputation for her determination to fight back against special interests on behalf of the citizens she represents," McLaughlin added. "Arizona is at an environmental and energy crossroad and Kara Kelty is exactly the kind of person we need at this critical time."
UFCW Local 99 is Arizona's largest labor union within the private sector. Its thousands of members and retirees are located throughout the state.
