STOKE, UNITED KINGDOM -- 07/06/09 -- You may think that nobody has escaped the affects of the credit crunch, but not so according to Stockport / Stoke based Terrys Fabrics - the supplier of quality curtains, blinds and childrens bedding helping you to transform your home for less. With orders flooding in for fun fabrics and its staff inundated with requests for advice on how to revamp children's rooms, it's clear that the younger members of the population are not suffering too much from any recession induced cut backs.

Staff at the company's Stockport / Stoke store say that parents are continuing to spend on children's rooms for two main reasons. Some come in looking for advice on a new look for a son or daughter who has simply outgrown the current decor. No matter how much they loved Bob The Builder Duvet Cover or Barbie they won't appreciate them being plastered over their rooms when they reach those difficult teenage years.

Secondly, while parents may have cut back on the amount of money they spend on themselves, they seem reluctant to do the same when it comes to their children. They still want to spoil their offspring, and if they can't afford the latest gadgets or perhaps that school trip to France, giving their room a makeover is a way of deflecting attention away from this.

Whilst it's the parents putting pressure on themselves to fork out for a new look for their child's bedroom, the youngsters visiting the store with their mum and dad do not seem to hold back when it comes to expressing their opinions on how they want it to look. Both girls and boys of all ages are quite outspoken about the style they want, often inspired by their favourite TV programmes, singers or film stars.

Paul McGuinness, of Terrys Fabrics, said:

"Even in today's tough economic climate parents aren't letting themselves off the hook in terms of wanting the best for their children. Some of the parents we see coming through the door are shopping more out of necessity, but the majority simply want to do something nice for their children. There is also an element of keeping up with the Jones's and competing with the flamboyant decor that other parents have provided for their children's friends. Of course one other reason for this attention on children's bedrooms could be that they are hoping if they make them as comfortable as possible for their offspring, they'll spend more time in there and not under their feet!"
