WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Emergency supplies donated by Chevron, operating in El Salvador under its Texaco brand, will arrive this weekend to Salvadoran communities struggling in the aftermath of devastating Hurricane Ida, the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) announced.

"We applaud Chevron as it continues to answer the call for help during natural disasters and humanitarian crises," says John Sanbrailo, PADF's Executive Director. "I urge others to follow its lead and help our neighbors."

Thousands of hurricane victims in the department of La Paz located along the coast will receive food and hygiene kits, which contain basic living supplies and toiletries.

"We are proud and humbled to be able to respond to the call for relief supplies following such devastation," says Mauricio Nicholls, general manager, retail and commercial and industrial, Caribbean, Central America and Andean regions for Chevron Products Company. "Thanks to PADF's response effort, we hope to help these communities rise again."

Hurricane Ida swept across El Salvador on Nov. 6 and 7, leaving in its wake more than 14,000 homeless and nearly 150 dead. Dozens of people are still missing. Thirteen provinces are affected by mudslides, flooding and wind damage. President Mauricio Funes declared a state of emergency Sunday night.

Chevron is a founding member of PADF's Disaster Management and Emergency Response Program (DMERP), a unique program designed to engage the private sector in disaster relief efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean. Working with PADF, Chevron has provided much needed help in Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, Haiti and Nicaragua, among others.

PADF is inviting other companies to support its relief efforts in El Salvador. Individuals who want to donate are encouraged to visit www.PanAmericanRelief.org.

"Pan American Relief is a safe, secure website set up by PADF so everyone can play a role during a natural disaster," says Sanbrailo.
